Organic Lawn Care Tips

❓Did You Know: You need different fertiliser for your lawn in spring & autumn.

🌱 In spring, we try to encourage plenty of new growth by using a fertiliser that has lots of nitrogen, like chicken poo or nettle tea. This helps the grass grow quickly & gives it a lovely healthy green colour.

🍂 In autum: We use a fertiliser that is high in potassium such as comfrey tea – this actually acts as a buffer to help the grass withstand freezing temperatures so it can bounce back quickly in spring. If you give the lawn too much nitrogen late in the year it will encourage lots of soft green growth which is vulnerable to frost.

💚As wildlife gardeners, we also set the mower a bit higher to allow daisies & other low growing flowers to survive as food for the bees. We also put up with a bit of moss – it’s useful for birds building their nests! Because we share our lawns with the wildlife, we don’t ever use herbicides or harmful chemicals that could end up in someone’s hive or nest.
